Scotsman Recognizes Donnelly for Outstanding Performance in Total Quality Management

ALEXANDRIA, MINN. (3/31/03)—Scotsman, a leading manufacturer of ice machines, recognized Donnelly Custom Manufacturing Company with a Silver Award for outstanding supplier performance. The criteria considered for the award included quality control, on-time delivery, cost reduction and responsiveness.

Donnelly is a plastics-injection molding company that specializes in short-run, close tolerance custom manufacturing. It received recognition as part of Scotsman's annual supplier recognition award banquet, held in Savannah, Georgia, on April 10.

Scotsman recognizes its top 20 suppliers with either a gold or silver award. Gold award winners must average 95% for on-time delivery and under 500 defects per million (dpm). Donnelly narrowly missed receiving a gold award. It posted a 98% on-time delivery result and a low 800 dpm average, despite Scotsman's 110 molds requiring multiple short runs to reach an annual average of 10,000 parts per tool.

Donnelly began supplying Scotsman with a single part in 1988. A high level of satisfaction led to Scotsman awarding additional business from 1989 to 1992. In 1993, Scotsman made Donnelly its sole source for injection molded plastic parts—a position the company maintains today.

According to Scott Brown, Purchasing Manager for Scotsman, Donnelly's recognition is well deserved. "Donnelly is a top rated supplier for Scotsman Ice Systems, having won many gold and silver awards over the past 8 years. Their superior quality, 98% on time delivery performance and high level of customer service make them an easy choice for all of our injection molding needs."

Jim McCarthy, Vice President—Director of Sales and Engineering, accepted the award on Donnelly's behalf and said the company was honored to receive Scotsman's recognition.

"Scotsman has always been innovative in elevating their supply chain performance," said McCarthy. "As a result of the high standards they set, supplier partners like Donnelly are challenged to continuously improve. We are proud to be an award winner and commit ourselves to meeting Scotsman’s high standards every year."
