Donnelly to Be Featured in New Book on Training within Industry
‘Implementing TWI’ highlights how Donnelly applied TWI approach in manufacturing processes and more

Alexandria, Minn. – August 11, 2010 – Donnelly Custom Manufacturing Company will be featured in a new book, “Implementing TWI: Creating and Managing a Skills-Based Culture,” set to be released Nov. 1 by CRC Press.

This unique book, written by Patrick Graupp and Robert J. Wrona, explores the experiences of several innovative and leading companies, including Donnelly, in taking full advantage of Training Within Industry. TWI is a program that uses a learn-by-doing approach to teach essential skills for supervisors and team leaders.

Laser ScannerThe chapter dedicated to Donnelly focuses on the role of a TWI champion. Donnelly has used TWI to help provide supervisors with critical leadership and analytical skills to help them quickly and consistently train teams to identify opportunities and recommend process improvements.

The goal is to make the best use of the people, machines and materials available, fostering improved quality and increased productivity. Donnelly has found TWI produces positive results by helping people to work better, not simply harder.

“When Donnelly began learning and training for TWI, we were determined to do it right,” said Ron Kirscht, president of Donnelly. “We’re delighted that the authors of this book took the time to meet with us to see how we implemented TWI, and how the techniques are truly helping us to continuously improve and better serve our customers.”

The authors chose to feature Donnelly because of the company’s record of success working with TWI. Donnelly has leveraged TWI for 6 years to help identify and solve problems, as well as improve our methods and processes and thus elevate our quality performance and service offerings on an ongoing basis.

“After visiting Donnelly, I realized there was something special about how they implemented and worked with TWI,” said Wrona. “They immediately came to my mind when we began writing this book; and I would like to thank them for allowing me to feature their expertise.”

Other features in the book include a history of TWI, how to make it an integrated process, building a culture around it, applying it to your own organization and problem solving.
