Donnelly takes Aim at Service and Delivery with Three New Machines

The Leader in ‘How Short Run Is Done’ Adds Hot Plate Welder, CNC Grinder, All-Electric Press

Alexandria, MN (May 24, 2012) – Donnelly Custom Manufacturing Company, an industry leader in short run injection molding, recently purchased three new machines to further enhance in-house capabilities to support customer needs and reduce lead times. The company will use the new hot plate welder, CNC grinder and all-electric injection molding machine to improve performance, expand offerings and provide faster service to meet customer needs.

Hot Plate Welder

The hot plate welder from Forward Technology of Cokato, Minn., was originally purchased to satisfy a specific customer need for a sub-assembly with a unique fastening technique. This process not only allows a more durable and effective method for joining parts, but also eliminates the need for fastening hardware.

Donnelly views the hot plate welder as a key addition to its broad array of manufacturing services available for customers. This investment supports and confirms Donnelly’s customer intimacy business model in advanced technology and equipment that best serves the needs of the customer.

CNC Grinder

The CNC grinder expands internal capabilities in Donnelly’s tool room and enables improved flexibility and turnaround times at a reduced cost. Having the CNC grinder in-house allows for more control of scheduling, better precision and eliminates the added time and cost associated with outsourcing machining and tool work.

Injection Molding Machine

The new injection molding machine, a 390-ton all-electric, is the fifth new Toshiba press Donnelly has installed in the last two years as part of its world-class maintenance plan. The company continuously cycles out older presses to maintain the repeatability, reliability and capability necessary to remain a leader in the industry. Presently, 25 of Donnelly’s 33 injection molding machines are all-electric and 21 of the 25 electric presses are from Toshiba.

The new SX Series Toshiba, which replaced a 1990’s vintage 320-ton Mitsubishi hydraulic press, was selected for the quiet operation and energy efficiency delivered by its electric servo drives and greater processing capabilities. In addition, Donnelly enjoyed a smoother installation and start-up because the Toshiba’s user interface is consistent with many other machines the company already has on the manufacturing floor.
